阿尔茨海默病的主要危险因素是年龄的增加,但其他因素似乎也发挥了一定的作用,例如该病似乎有遗传易感性。研究人员发现,阿尔茨海默症的发生与高血压、低叶酸摄入量、高胆固醇、精神和身体活动水平低等有关。研究人员最近进行的研究发现,男性的Y基因似乎与阿尔茨海默症有关。
女性有两个X染色体,而男性有一个X和一个Y染色体。除此之外,Y染色体可促进睾丸的生长和发育。近年来,有研究指出,随着年龄的进展,男性的Y染色体慢慢退化(LOY),因此会造成某些功能减退,甚至有罹患癌症的风险。一些研究者认为,在未来,可以通过检测Y染色体而评估男性患癌症或其他疾病的风险。
男性比女性寿命较短且更容易患与性别无关的普通性癌症。一些科学家认为,Y染色体的丢失可能有助于解释这种性别差异。
乌普萨拉大学的Lars Forsberg教授和Jan Dumanski教授与英法科学家共同进行了探究。研究人员对3200名年龄范围为37-96岁(平均73岁)的男性进行了调查。约17%男性体内至少10%的红细胞出现了LOY,此外他们发现,出现LOY的男性更易患阿尔茨海默症。因为血液细胞在免疫系统中起着不可或缺的作用,研究人员猜想LOY或许可降低血液细胞的功能并进一步削弱机体的免疫反应能力。
研究人员表示,关于LOY的研究仍处于起步阶段,但研究人员表示仍需进行更进一步的研究,并将LOY作为某种癌症的筛查手段或生物标记物。
